Terms of service
Last updated: 9 October 2026
1. About us and these terms
become.games (“we”, “us”) is a trading style of Polarize Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 12944077. Our registered office is 20-22 Wenlock Road, London, England, N1 7GU. You can contact us by email at hello@become.games.
These terms apply when you use become.games, app.become.games and the games we host on *.become.games (together, the “service”). By creating an account or buying a plan you agree to them. Please also read our privacy policy and cookie policy. Our acceptable use policy forms part of these terms: if you break it, you break these terms.
2. Who can use the service
- You must be 13 or over to create an account and make games. If you are under 13, a parent or guardian must create the game for you.
- We ask for your month and year of birth when you first sign in, and you must answer before you can upload photos, make characters or create or publish games. If you give false information we may close your account.
- Cheeky mode (innuendo copy and the censored-romance ending) is only available if you are 18 or over and you confirm that every character in the game is an adult. Family mode is the default.
- Anyone can play a game you share with them. Players do not need an account.
3. Your account
You sign in with your Google account. Keep access to it secure: anything done through your account is your responsibility. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it. One account per person, please.
4. What’s free and what you pay for
- Free: choosing, building, editing, re-theming and previewing games with our demo characters, and publishing games with your own characters on a permanent link (see section 11).
- Plans: turning your photos into characters and using custom game links need an active plan. We currently offer Monthly (£3.49 a month) and Yearly (£19.99 a year). Both include character credits and custom game links.
- Credits: a new character costs 3 credits (if a drawing fails our automatic quality check, we redraw it for free) and a full re-do costs 3 credits. Memory scenes for the story climber are coming soon and will cost 1 credit each. Credits included in a plan expire at the end of the plan period. Credit top-ups require an active plan.
- Prices are shown in pounds sterling at checkout and are the total you pay. We may change prices for future periods; we will tell you at least 14 days before a change applies to your plan, and you can cancel before it does.
5. Payments, renewals and cancelling
- Payments are taken by our payment provider, Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
- Plans renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. We send a reminder before a yearly plan renews.
- You can cancel any time from your account page in two clicks. Your plan keeps running until the end of the period you have paid for and then does not renew.
6. Digital content and your right to cancel
Characters (and, once they launch, memory scenes) are digital content made specifically for you. Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 you normally have 14 days to cancel. When you buy a plan or credits, the checkout asks you to tick a box (it is never ticked for you, and you can’t pay without it) to ask us to start supplying your digital content straight away and to confirm: “Start creating my characters now. I understand I lose my 14-day right to cancel once generation begins.” Once you have ticked it and generation starts, there are no refunds for change of mind. We keep a record of your confirmation (the time, a hashed version of your IP address and the wording you agreed to), and your receipt confirms it.
If you subscribe but have not yet started any generation, you can cancel within 14 days of purchase for a full refund by emailing us.
Your statutory rights are not affected. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If a character genuinely fails (for example the sheet is broken or unusable), we will re-do it, and if we can’t fix it within a reasonable time we will refund you for it. Automatic quality checks, with a free redraw when a drawing fails them, are designed to catch problems early.
7. Chargebacks
If something is wrong, please email us first: we can usually fix it quickly. If you dispute a payment with your bank (a chargeback), we may suspend your account and your games will sleep while the dispute is open. We will provide evidence of your purchase and use to your bank, including your digital content confirmation, generation records and the delivered game.
8. Your photos and other content
- You keep ownership of the photos, text and anything else you upload, type or create on become.games (“your content”).
- You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use your content only as needed to provide the service: to store and process it, moderate it, turn photos into cartoon characters, build, host and show your games to people with the link, and keep the records described in our privacy policy. The licence ends when your content is deleted, except for copies we must keep for legal, safety or security reasons.
-
Every time you upload a photo or publish a game you confirm that:
- you own the photo or otherwise have the right to use it;
- everyone in it has agreed to be turned into a game character;
- for any children in it, you are their parent or guardian or have their parent’s or guardian’s permission; and
- your content does not infringe anyone’s copyright, trade mark, privacy, publicity or other legal rights, and follows our acceptable use policy.
- No celebrities, politicians or other public figures.
- Original photos are deleted as soon as the characters are generated (with a 24-hour automatic backstop).
9. Characters, games and our technology
- You may use your characters and games for personal, non-commercial purposes: sharing, playing and showing them to friends, family and colleagues.
- The game engines, code, art style, music, sound effects, pre-written copy and the become.games brand belong to us or our licensors. You may not copy, sell or reverse-engineer them, except where the law expressly allows it.
- Characters are drawn with AI image models from your photo: a standing pose and an action pose, each facing both ways. Likenesses are cartoons and may not be perfect. Every drawing is checked automatically and redrawn for free if it fails the check, and you can ask for a full re-do.
- If you think something on become.games infringes your copyright or other rights, tell us (see section 10).
10. Content rules, moderation and enforcement
Everything you upload, create, type, share or publish must follow our acceptable use policy. We check photos and text automatically, and people on our team review new characters, reports and flagged content. Moderation is not perfect, and we can’t check everything before it is published.
How we keep people safe
Sharing a game on become.games means other people see what you made, so we have to protect them from illegal and harmful content. This is what we do, before and after anything is published:
- Photos are checked before we use them. Every uploaded photo goes through an automated image-safety check (OpenAI’s moderation service) for nudity, sexual content, violence and hate symbols before anything else happens to it. Photos that fail are refused and deleted straight away.
- Child sexual abuse material. If the check flags a photo as possible child sexual exploitation or abuse material, it is never used or shown, the account is suspended at once and its games are taken down, and our team handles the case. Where the law requires it, we report it to the relevant authorities (see our privacy policy for what we keep and why).
- Text filters. Our own filters check every game title, address, character name, line of game text and leaderboard nickname as you type and again when you save. They block swearing, slurs and hate, sexual content, threats, encouraging suicide or self-harm, buying or selling drugs, links, and personal details such as phone numbers, email addresses and home addresses or postcodes, including disguised spellings.
- A person checks every new character. Characters are drawn by AI from your photo and checked automatically. During our launch period a person on our team also looks at every new character before any game using it can be published (usually within 24 hours). You can use it in drafts and private previews straight away, and we email you when it’s approved.
- Leaderboards. Nicknames go through the same filters, and a bot check (Cloudflare Turnstile) runs when someone adds a new nickname.
- Age and cheeky mode. You must tell us your month and year of birth before you can upload photos, make characters or publish games. Cheeky mode is 18+ only, and characters made from photos of children are always family mode.
- Reports and enforcement. Every game has a “Report this game” link, and people on our team act on reports as described below.
We use automated tools (“proactive technology”) to find content that breaks our rules before it is published: the image-safety check on photos, our text filters, and automatic quality checks on every character drawing. Automated checks only ever block something before it is used; decisions such as taking down a game or acting against an account are made by a person (with the two automatic exceptions described in our privacy policy).
If you break the acceptable use policy or these terms, depending on what happened and how serious it is, we may:
- block content before it is published;
- ask you to change something;
- edit, restrict, unpublish or remove a game;
- remove content or leaderboard entries;
- reset manipulated scores;
- restrict features;
- issue a warning or strike;
- temporarily suspend your account; or
- permanently ban your account.
We don’t have to warn you first where the issue is serious, illegal, creates a safety or security risk, or needs immediate action. Repeatedly or deliberately trying to get around our moderation may itself lead to action against your account, and you must not create a new account to get around a suspension or ban. While an account is suspended or banned, its published games are taken down for review and it can only reach its status page and our contact form. We will tell you why we have acted unless the law or safety stops us.
Where the law requires it, we report detected child sexual exploitation and abuse content to the relevant authorities. We may also preserve information and disclose it to law enforcement or other authorities where we are legally required to do so. See our privacy policy for details.
Reporting content
Every published game has a “Report this game” link. You can also report something through our report page, our contact form or by emailing hello@become.games. Please give us enough information to identify the game or content and explain what you think is wrong. We review reports and may restrict or remove content while we investigate. We review reports about child sexual exploitation or abuse within 24 hours (we aim for the same day) and all other reports within 3 working days.
What happens to reported content: a person on our team looks at it. If it breaks these terms or our acceptable use policy, we remove it or take the game down, and we may also take the other steps listed above against the account. If it doesn’t, it stays up. Suspected child sexual exploitation or abuse is reported to the relevant authorities where the law requires it. If the reporter gave us an email address, we tell them the outcome unless the law or someone’s safety stops us.
Appeals
If we remove your content, restrict your game or take action against your account and you think we made a mistake, contact us through our contact form (choose “Appealing a moderation decision”) or email hello@become.games. Where appropriate, the decision will be reviewed by a person who was not responsible for the original decision, and we will tell you the outcome. We aim to answer appeals and complaints about our decisions within 5 working days. Appealing does not affect any other rights you have.
Complaints
You can complain to us, free of charge, about:
- content on become.games that you think is illegal or breaks our rules (please use the report routes above);
- a moderation decision we made about you or your content, including a photo, text or character we blocked, a game we took down, or action against your account (an appeal, as above);
- our age checks, or the way our safety tools work; or
- anything you think shows we are not meeting our duties under the UK Online Safety Act 2023, such as how we handle reports or how clearly these terms explain things.
Use our contact form (choose “Appealing a moderation decision”, which also covers complaints about our safety duties) or email hello@become.games. A person reads every complaint. We aim to answer appeals and complaints about our decisions within 5 working days. If we agree we got something wrong, we put it right, for example by restoring content or lifting a restriction. Complaining never leads to action against you, unless the complaint itself breaks our rules.
11. Game addresses
- Every published game gets a permanent address: a long random link on become.games that is free and stays the same for as long as the game exists.
- With an active plan you can also give a game a custom address (for example yourname.become.games). Custom addresses are first come, first served; duplicates are refused. You can change or remove a custom address; a changed one forwards to the new one for 30 days.
- If your plan ends, custom addresses switch off (they show a “this link is switched off” page) and the games carry on at their permanent addresses. Subscribe again and your custom addresses come back, as long as you haven’t deleted the game.
- Some names are reserved or automatically blocked: system names, brands and look-alike spellings of them, our own names, public figures, words that claim a game is “official” or endorsed, phishing-style words (such as login, verify, wallet, payment or refund) and offensive words.
- Don’t use an address or title to impersonate a person, business, brand, charity or government organisation, or to suggest an endorsement or connection that doesn’t exist.
- We may refuse, change or reclaim an address that breaks these rules or creates a security, legal or impersonation risk. If we change it, the old address normally forwards to the new one for 30 days; if we reclaim it, the game goes back to a draft that you can publish again under a different address, and the old address stays reserved.
- You can’t change a game’s permanent address. If you delete a game, its addresses stay locked for 90 days so nobody else can take them over.
12. When a plan ends
If your plan ends, your games stay live on their permanent addresses and your characters stay in your cast. Custom addresses switch off until you subscribe again (see section 11), unused plan credits expire, and you can’t make new characters until you have a plan. Nothing is deleted because a plan ended: your games and characters stay until you delete them or close your account.
13. Leaderboards
Every game has a leaderboard. Players choose a nickname, which is moderated and follows the same rules as everything else on become.games. The game owner can reset the board or hide nicknames. Don’t use bots, scripts, exploits or other tricks to manipulate scores: we may remove leaderboard entries that break the rules and remove or reset scores that appear fraudulent or manipulated.
14. The service
We work hard to keep everything running, but we can’t promise the service will always be available or error-free. We may change, improve or withdraw features. If we stop providing the service entirely we will give you reasonable notice and a pro-rata refund for any unused paid period.
15. Our responsibility to you
- Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law, and nothing affects your statutory rights.
- If we fail to follow these terms we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our failure, but not for losses that were not foreseeable.
- The service is for personal use. We are not responsible for business losses (such as lost profit or business interruption).
- If defective digital content we supply damages a device or other digital content belonging to you, we will either repair the damage or pay you compensation, unless the damage was caused by your failure to follow our instructions.
- Otherwise, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
16. Closing your account
You can delete games, characters or your whole account at any time from the app. Deleting your account removes your characters, games, leaderboards and account details; we keep only the order and credit records we must keep by law, without your name or email. You can download a copy of your data from your account page first. We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms or our acceptable use policy, as described in section 10.
17. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you we will tell you by email or in the app at least 14 days before it applies. If you don’t agree, you can cancel before the change takes effect.
18. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in your local courts. Please contact us first: most problems can be solved by email.
